Skilled and Regional Migration
There are a series of migration pathways for overseas skilled workers to Australia.
– Independent Skilled Migration Visa

– The Independent Skilled Migration Visa (subclass 189) is designed for skilled workers who are not sponsored by an employer, a state or territory, or a family member. The purpose of this visa is to attract highly skilled individuals to fill gaps in the Australian labour market and contribute to the economy.
– The State Sponsored Migration Visa (subclass 190) is for skilled workers who are nominated by an Australian state or territory government. This purpose of this visa is to address specific skill shortages within particular states or territories. This visa grants permanent residency and requires the holder to live and work in the nominating state or territory for a certain period.
– The Regional Migration Visa (subclass 491) is a provisional visa for skilled workers who are willing to live and work in designated regional areas of Australia for a period of 3 years to be eligible for permanent residency. Applicants must be nominated by an Australian state or territory government or sponsored by an eligible family member residing in a regional area.
Under all above categories of skilled migration, the applicant is assessed and awarded points based on the factors such as age, education, work experience, Specialised Education qualification, Credential community Language, English proficiency, Partner Skills, Professional Year in Australia and other skills.
